Traffic violation leads to chase, crash with police cruiser. The suspect got away

A section of McKinley Avenue was closed early Thursday after a police cruiser was involved in a crash.

The collision happened just after 12:30 a.m. as officers were attempting a traffic stop near the off-ramp of McKinley and Highway 168, according to the Fresno Police Department.

The suspect failed to stop and ran a red light at the intersection. Officers were attempting to follow when they collided with a second car as it came off of the McKinley off-ramp.

One officer was taken to the hospital, but “is doing well,” police said.

No other injuries were reported.

The original suspect was not stopped.

Westbound McKinley was closed from Chestnut for several hours while police investigated the crash.
