A 15-year-old Hoover High School student has died a week after being hit by a car near the Fresno school, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.

Rashad Al-Hakim Jr. was crossing the road in front of Hoover, which is on First and Barstow avenues, about 6 p.m. Oct. 4 when he was struck by a car that did not immediately stop, Fresno police have said.

The driver, who was a woman, called police shortly after the fatal crash and said she did not know what she struck, police said.

Officer Felipe Uribe said Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing and police have not determined if they will recommend charges for the driver, who submitted to a DUI test. She was determined to not be impaired.

The teen, who also played basketball at Hoover, remained at Community Regional Medical Center until he died, the coroner’s office confirmed Wednesday.

His mother set up a gofundme page.
