Update: Hoover High teen remains critical after hit by car. What school officials said
A Hoover High School student was struck by a car near the campus and remained in critical condition on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The 15-year-old was crossing the road in front of the school, which is on First and Barstow avenues, about 6 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a car, Fresno Police spokesman Felipe Uribe reported..
The female driver did not immediately stop, police said, but called the crash into 911 shortly after the collision. She met with officers at another location, Uribe said, and submitted to a DUI test. She was determined to not be impaired.
Uribe said the woman told police she did not know what she struck.
The teen remained at Community Regional Medical Center on Wednesday. He was in critical condition as of the latest update Wednesday afternoon, according to Fresno Unified spokeswoman Diana Diaz.
“We are incredibly saddened to hear about this tragic news,” said Diaz. “We are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
“Social emotional supports are being provided to students at Hoover High who may also be experiencing a tough time with this news.”
