A suspicious phone call to Clovis High on Tuesday afternoon prompted officials to order students to shelter in classrooms as police officers sped to the campus.

Nearby Clovis Elementary took similar action, said Clovis Unified District spokeswoman Kelly Avants.

The action at the schools, near Fowler and Barstow avenues, lasted from 1:10 p.m. until 2:05 p.m. when officials determined there was no credible threat.

Avants said she would not characterize the action taken by Clovis Unified School District as a lockdown with “kids hiding under desks.”

Rather, students continued to do classwork as police checked the campus.

The Clovis incident took place just a week after Fresno police rushed to Bullard High School in response to a telephone threat that two men with AR-15 rifles were shooting students on the campus. The report was false.

Police later determined that similar calls were placed to multiple California schools.
