Woman, 76, identified as victim killed in Fresno County mobile home fire

A 76-year-old woman died Tuesday following a fire inside a mobile home in rural Fresno County, according to Cal Fire.

The woman was pulled from the home on West Avenue between Mountain View and Nebraska avenues by a pair of brothers, one 19 and the other 18, about 1:50 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Brandon Markle.

First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene north of Caruthers, Cal Fire said.

The victim was identified Tuesday afternoon by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Linda Elder, 76, of Caruthers.

The teen brothers and another woman who lived inside the double-wide were transported to Community Regional Medical Center to be treated, Cal Fire said. Another woman living in the home reported no injuries.

Markle said the Red Cross would be called in to assist the survivors displaced by the fire.
