Woman runs red light in Fresno then crashes into vehicle, fire hydrant and electric pole
A woman was taken to a hospital Saturday evening after the car she was driving appeared to run a red light and strike a fire hydrant and a power pole near Fresno City College.
Fresno Police Lt. Robert Dewey said the police helicopter notified officers that there was a crash around 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of Blackstone and McKinley avenues, involving two vehicles.
Dewey said the woman was traveling eastbound on McKinley at a high rate of speed before running a red light on Blackstone and colliding with another vehicle that was occupied by two people.
The two people inside the vehicle that the woman hit were not injured, Dewey said.
But the woman had to be extricated by the Fresno Fire Department after hitting the hydrant and power pole.
She was taken to a local hospital with moderate to serious injuries, Dewey said.
Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office were pursuing before calling it off at Palm and McKinley avenues prior to the crash.
A loaded gun and drugs were found in the vehicle, Dewey said.
Water from the fire hydrant caused it to spill on the roadway eastbound on McKinley before it was shut off.
Blackstone and eastbound McKinley were closed for about two hours.
