Driver is killed and his passenger hurt as a car and train collide in Tulare County

A driver in his late 20s died early Saturday when the car he was driving ran into a freight train in Tulare County, just north of the city of Dinuba.

A spokesperson with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the man, identified as Raymond Garza, 29, of Dinuba, was killed in the crash on Avenue 424 at the San Joaquin Valley Railroad tracks near Road 72. Garza was declared dead at the scene.

The crash is reported to have happened shortly before 2 a.m.

A passenger in the Toyota Camry suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Neither the California Highway Patrol’s Visalia office nor a sheriff’s spokesperson could provide additional information as of Saturday afternoon.

A representative from the San Joaquin Valley Railroad could not be reached to comment on Saturday.
