Pedestrian fatally struck by a train near West Shaw and Golden State in Fresno, police say

A woman was stuck by a train while crossing the tracks Sunday morning in northwest Fresno, police said.

It happened at 12:12 a.m. on Shaw Avenue near Golden State Boulevard.

An engineer with Union Pacific railroad told officers the woman was attempting to cross the tracks with her bicycle before she was struck, Lt. Sean Biggs said.

The woman, described by police as in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is not known.

It is also not known how fast the train was going.
