Fresno State professor dies in drowning incident in Hawaii. He was trying to save others
A Fresno State professor drowned while vacationing in Hawaii.
Dr. Steve Adisasmito-Smith, an associate professor of world literatures, died in the incident Sunday while trying to save multiple people, according to a tweet posted by the Fresno State English Department.
The department also stated that Adisasmito-Smith was on a family trip in Hawaii.
Adisasmito-Smith was 57 years old.
He had taught at Fresno State for 19 years and received high remarks from past students. One website that asks students to rate their professors had given Adisasmito-Smith a 3.6 rating out of 5.0 scale.
There will not be a funeral. But a memorial tribute for Adisasmito-Smith will be planned for September, the English Department added.
