Fresno man was fatal bike crash victim, coroner says. SUV driver could not see him

A 23-year-old man killed last week while riding a bicycle west of Highway 99 in Fresno has been identified, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said.

Rohit Singh of Fresno was on a bike about 9 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of West Shaw and North Hayes avenues, the coroner confirmed.

An SUV was traveling west on Shaw when the driver noticed Singh and attempted to avoid him, but could not stop before hitting the man, police said. It was dark at the time.

Singh was thrown from the bike and landed in the roadway, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver stayed at the scene and spoke with officers as did other witnesses, police said.

Officers could not immediately say how much speed played into the accident, police said, but alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
