Clovis woman found dead in crash had been reported missing, police say. Coroner ID’s her

A Clovis woman reported missing was found after a fatal crash over a cliff in the Fresno County foothills, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a car over a cliff about 10 a.m. Wednesday in Auberry Road north of Beal Fire Road, officers said.

The solo occupant in the car was identified as Vanessa Byer, 67, by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

She was driving a 2012 Honda Accord south on Auberry Road and for an unknown reason failed to negotiate a turn, leaving the roadway headed east, CHP said. The car went down the embankment and struck a tree.

She was wearing a seatbelt but died from her injuries, CHP said.

Byer had been reported missing about nine hours earlier by a friend or family member, Clovis police confirmed.
