Fresno sheriff’s dive team recovers man’s body in Avocado Lake. Second man hospitalized

A recovery operation ended Sunday when a body was recovered from Avocado Lake northeast of Sanger in Fresno County.

Fresno County sheriff’s Lt. Adam Esmay said the dive team located the man about 10 feet off the shoreline. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was in serious condition at a Fresno-area hospital late Sunday.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Cal Fire, Sanger Fire and American Ambulance responded to the area of North Piedra and Tivy Valley roads around 3 p.m. for a water rescue of two adult males and found one, who had been pulled out of the water.

It is unknown whether the two were proficient swimmers or what might happened, but it is possible they may have become tangled in underwater vegetation.

“In this specific areas there is a lot vegetation and sometimes when you’re swimming the vegetation can wrap around your leg, tie you down and take you under, ” said Sgt. Jeff Stricker with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
