Firecrackers were set off inside a Central East High School bathroom in Fresno on Friday morning, temporarily halting school activities, Central Unified School District announced.

School administrators are investigating the incident that happened around 8:30 a.m. “At no point was anyone in harm’s way,” Central Unified spokesperson Gilbert Magallon said in a news release.

Magallon said the district understands that this can be traumatic for both students and staff, especially given what has recently occurred in our nation – presumably referring to the Uvalde, Texas school shooting earlier this week that killed 19 children and two teachers.

The district shared an online article titled “Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers,” from the National Association of School Psychologists, and added that “counselors and mental health staff are available on campus to support any student who may need their services.”
