Name of boy, 2, killed after being hit by truck while with family at Lost Lake park is released
A toddler struck and killed by a truck at Lost Lake Recreation Area, just north of Fresno, was identified by the county Coroner’s Office on Sunday.
Alfonso Vega, 2, of Fresno died Saturday night, Fresno County sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said via email.
Just before 7 p.m., the boy was walking when he was hit by a truck traveling at a slow speed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver called 911, remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
There was no indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor, CHP Sgt. Joseph Bianchi said. “Seems like it was just an unfortunate incident,” he said.
CHP said Vega was with a family that had been at the park and was packing up to leave and thought the child was already inside their vehicle.
