A Jeep crashed into a truck in Fresno County and one of the drivers didn’t survive
A dump truck driver was killed Thursday evening from a two-vehicle collision in western Fresno County.
The collision happened at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Brawley and West Church avenues.
UPDATE: Victim and suspect identified
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joseph Bianchi said the tractor was traveling southbound on Brawley, approaching the intersection at Church with no controlled stop sign when a black Jeep Wrangler appeared to run the stop sign on Church and collided with the tractor.
The collision caused the dump truck to veer into the front yard of a home and struck a tree while nearly striking the residence. The man, identified as a 60-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene, Bianchi said. A pole was also struck.
The driver of the Jeep, a 22-year-old woman, didn’t sustain any injuries. Bianchi said they are looking to see if the woman was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“We don’t have anything confirmed at this point,” Bianchi said. “But it is always something we’re going to investigate. We’re talking to the (Fresno County District Attorney’s Office) about how we’re going to proceed with the investigation.”
CHP spokesman Mike Salas later said the woman will be booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death and gross vehicular manslaughter.
The house wasn’t struck and there were no other injuries. Bianchi said both drivers wore seat belts, but the damage to the driver side of the truck “appeared to be extensive.”
A hazmat team was called because of diesel fuel.
