Fresno driver hits CHP cruiser head-on. The officer had her stopped before the collision

A 22-year-old Fresno woman collided head-on with a California Highway Patrol vehicle after a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Fresno County.

CHP officers were looking for a reckless driver around 2:15 p.m. when they located it on Highway 99 towards North Avenue, CHP officer Kristopher Moreno said.

An officer made a traffic stop on East North Avenue, west of South Cedar Avenue.

The driver and the officer were outside of the vehicle when the woman headed back inside the vehicle and the officer told her not to.

Moreno said the woman continued and entered the vehicle and took off west on North and made a U-turn and accelerated back towards the patrol vehicle and collided head-on. The officer was outside of his vehicle and didn’t sustain any injuries, Moreno said.

The woman was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. She will be booked into Fresno County Jail.

Moreno said it is not known of the motive and no impairment was suspected.
