Update: Coroner identifies Clovis teen killed in SUV crash at Fresno County intersection

A Clovis teen who died after being thrown from an SUV in a crash on Temperance Avenue on Wednesday morning has now been identified.

The Fresno County Corner’s Office on Wednesday afternoon said was Gourav, 19, of Clovis.

The coroner’s office added that it did not have a first or last name for the victim, and that the information it has only lists the surname.

Gourav was the riding in the right rear seat of an SUV heading north on Temperance Avenue around 12:45 a.m., according to the CHP. The SUV failed to stop at the intersection of Temperance and North avenues and was struck on the passenger side by an oncoming car.

North is not controlled by a stop sign at Temperance and has the right-of-way, the CHP said.

Neither driver was able to take evasive action and both cars left the roadway and ended up in a dirt field. Gourav was ejected from the SUV as it overturned. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, 48-year-old Benjamin Villa Fuerte, had minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, 21-year-old Moises Mendoza of Fresno, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

Neither driver appear to be impaired and nobody was arrested, the CHP said.
