Coroner ID’s victim in fatal Fresno County motorcycle crash. He may have been DUI, CHP says

A 52-year-old motorcycle rider who died in a potential DUI crash in a Fresno County orchard has been named, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

The rider from Kingsburg was on his 2001 Indian Scout just before 6 p.m. Sunday off Fowler Avenue and north of Barrett Avenue outside of Laton, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Salas.

He was Matthew Martinez, the coroner’s office said.

Salas said the motorcyclist was riding north on Fowler when he lost control of the motorcycle and overturned on the westbound shoulder. Martinez was thrown onto the shoulder and landed in an orchard.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet but alcohol is suspected of playing a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
