Coroner ID’s Fresno woman killed in Highway 99 crash. Her 21st birthday was weeks away

The victim killed in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 99 south of Fresno has been identified as a 20-year-old Fresno woman.

Destiney Perez would have turned 21 on Feb. 12, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said in an update Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash took place about 2 a.m. Thursday as Perez was driving a GMC Sonoma north on 99 near North Avenue when she drifted to the right of the roadway and a front tire struck a raised concrete curb.

The pickup spun and the driver side door slammed into a light post. The truck veered up a dirt embankment, overturned and rolled back down to the roadway. Perez died at the scene.

The CHP said alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.
