Fresno woman, 20, killed after flipping truck on Highway 99. DUI suspected, CHP says
A 20-year-old Fresno woman was killed Thursday morning when her truck overturned on Highway 99 in a suspected DUI crash.
The solo-vehicle crash happened around 2 a.m. when the woman lost control while driving north near North Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The CHP initially reported the victim was 21 years old. But the Fresno County Coroner’s Office later Thursday confirmed her identify as 20-year-old Destiney Perez of Fresno. She would have turned 21 on Feb. 12.
One of the front tires hit a concrete curb and spun the truck into a light post. It then drove up a dirt embankment, where it overturned and came rolling back down on to the highway. The truck landed on its roof in the number three lane, the CHP said.
Medical personal responded, but the woman died on the scene.
Said the CHP: “The use of alcohol appears to have been a factor in this collision.”
