At least one person was killed in crash late Saturday in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The two-vehicle collision happened at 8:15 p.m., at Highway 168, east of Auberry Road.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said a 21-year-old Clovis man was driving west in his Toyota MR2 on Highway 168, east of Auberry Road at an unknown speed, while a Toyota Tacoma truck was traveling east on Highway 168, east of Auberry Road at 45 mph.

The driver of the Toyota MR2 lost control of his vehicle when he negotiated a crest in the roadway. The vehicle rotated counterclockwise and entered the eastbound lane into the path of the approaching Toyota Tacoma.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was not able to avoid a collision with the Toyota MR2, Salas said. The front of the Toyota Tacoma collided with the right door of the Toyota MR2 and came to rest on the right shoulder.

The Clovis man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was not injured.

Salas said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
