Semitrailer overturns on top of SUV, killing 2 in Madera County, CHP says

Two people were killed Wednesday evening when a semitrailer hauling pomegranates overturned on an SUV in Madera County.

The collision happened at around 4:15 p.m. at Avenue 7 and Road 31, northwest of Fresno, according to law enforcement.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Gregorio Rodriguez said a semi was traveling eastbound with a set of double trailers while a Nissan SUV was heading west. The semi left Avenue 7 and went onto the shoulder, with the driver losing control and overcorrecting, causing both of the trailers to overturn and smash into the SUV.

The two people in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP. The truck driver sustained minor injuries.
