Driver in stopped car dies as truck rear-ends it along Highway 99, CHP says
A man was killed Monday after his stopped car was struck by a pickup along Highway 99 in Selma, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred about 4 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway at Floral Avenue, CHP spokesman Mike Salas said.
A Hyundai had stopped in the median, Salas said, when the driver of a Ford F-250 traveling north hit their brakes as traffic began to slow suddenly. The truck driver then swerved to the left to avoid other slowing vehicles.
The Ford went into the median, where it hit the rear of the Hyundai.
It was unknown why the car had stopped.
The driver of the Hyundai, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene.
It does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, Salas said.
