One dead, two with major injuries after Avenue 7 crash in Madera County

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision early Thursday morning in Madera County. The collision took place before dawn at the intersection of Avenue 7 and Road 21.

The CHP reported that just after 5 a.m. a 54-year-old man in a Dodge Caravan was southbound on Road 21 north of Avenue 7 when he did not yield for a stop sign, drove in front of a Volvo, and was broadsided. The Caravan overturned and he died at the scene.

A female passenger in the Caravan suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, as was the male driver of the Volvo. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
