Body found in Madera County believed to be missing 2-year-old, Thaddeus Sran, police say

The remains of a child believed to be that of 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran, who went missing earlier this month, were found Thursday morning west of Madera, the Police Department announced Thursday.

Speaking during a news conference Thursday afternoon, Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson said an infant’s body was discovered around 9:15 a.m. in a remote area outside the city. A tip led detectives to an area outside the city, Lawson said. Detectives used the assistance of a cadaver dog during the search.

“The infant is deceased. The age is approximately 2 to 3 years old,” Lawson said at a news conference. “We cannot, at this time, confirm that it’s little Thaddeus until test results return to confirm that.”

However, he said, there’s a “very strong possibility that it is little Thaddeus.”

Lawson said there’s more to the investigation.

“Many of you may know where this area is. Please allow our detectives and our officers and the members of the FBI to do their due diligence (to) process this scene, so that we can have positive results, please,” he said.

Minutes before the news conference, the law firm Nuttall & Coleman sent out a statement to the media on behalf of Thaddeus’ parents. The parents deny having ended their cooperation with the police investigation.

On Wednesday, Madera police announced the parents had stopped cooperating in the investigation early on.

Lawson said he stands by prior statements from his department.

Detectives worked with other agencies, including the FBI, the U.S. Marshals, and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
