Second inmate at Fresno County jail tests positive for the coronavirus

An inmate at the Fresno County Jail has tested positive for the coronavirus, Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.

The sheriff’s office received the positive test results on Thursday. It’s the second inmate to test positive.

The inmate was in quarantine at the jail and has since moved to an isolated pod for positive cases, Botti said.

It is unclear how the inmate contracted the coronavirus.

The other inmate tested positive April 24. Botti said that inmate is “doing better” and has since moved into the general population.

On May 14, a correctional officer tested positive. He has since recovered and returned to work Thursday, Botti said.
