Two killed, one hurt in Tulare County crash; a gun was found in wreckage, CHP says

Two young people were killed and another injured when their speeding Toyota Prius plowed into a farm vehicle early Tuesday morning on a Tulare County road, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said officers found a loaded .40 caliber pistol and marijuana plants in the Prius. The vehicle was taken for evidence.

A 17-year-old girl from Visalia riding in the backseat died at the scene, the CHP said. The 20-year-old driver, a man from Dinuba, was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where he died. A 15-year-old passenger from Visalia suffered moderate injuries, CHP reported Wednesday.

The driver of the farm vehicle wasn’t hurt.

The CHP said the crash happened about 7:30 a.m. The 2010 Prius was traveling southbound north of Visalia on Road 80, seen by witnesses near Avenue 360 swerving back and forth at 80-90 mph. Down the road near Avenue 328 the driver came up on the farm vehicle that was traveling about 35-40 mph; the Prius ran into the back of the farm vehicle.
