Two little girls seriously injured in off-road crash in Fresno County

Two young girls were seriously injured Tuesday in an off-road crash in southern Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.

At 6:10 p.m., dispatchers received a 911 call from the parents of the girls that a crash occurred near Cedar Street and Excelsior Avenue southwest of Laton near the Kings River.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said a 10-year-old girl was driving the ATV quad with a 6-year-old passenger on the back when it overturned for unknown reasons.

The girls sustained moderate to major injuries.

The 10-year-old was taken by helicopter to Valley Children’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition Tuesday. The other girl (she is related to the older girl but it wasn’t clear if they’re sisters) was taken on an ambulance. Her condition was unknown.

No helmets were worn, Salas said.

The investigation is ongoing.
