CHP reports driver killed in collision near Orange Cove

The driver of a Mazda sedan was killed Monday morning in a collision with a Chevrolet van near Orange Cove, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision took place about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue 432 and Road 120. The CHP said the driver of the van was approaching a stop sign at Road 120, but failed to yield, and collided with the Mazda, slamming the Mazda into a power pole. The Mazda driver died at the scene. One of the occupants of the van was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. The second was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision.
