A Selma police officer was taken to the hospital after his car was T-boned at an intersection in the city Sunday.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Salas said the crash happened just before noon.

The officer was responding to an assist call traveling south on Thompson Avenue. At Floral Avenue he stopped at the red light then entered the intersection. The patrol car was then struck on the passenger side by a vehicle traveling east.

The impact of the collision propelled the patrol car eastward and into the front of three vehicles which were stopped. In total five cars were involved in the collision.

The officer was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for minor to moderate injuries.

The collision is still under investigation but neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor, Salas said.
