CHP: Visalia man dies in Highway 180 crash near entrance to Kings Canyon National Park

A 60-year-old Visalia man died in a solo-car collision on Highway 180 near the entrance to Kings Canyon National Park on Friday.

The fatal crash took place about 7:13 a.m. on 180 just west of Highway 245 at around 5,000 feet in elevation, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said a 2000 Honda Accord driven east by David Borchardt of Visalia crossed over into the westbound lane then hit a rock face on the north side of the highway.

The car overturned and came to a rest in the westbound lane.

“The solo male occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene after all lifesaving efforts were exhausted,” the CHP said in a news release.

Highway 180 was shut down between Millwood Road and Highway 245 while crews cleared the scene.
