CHP: Pedestrian killed in early morning collision on Madera County highway

A pedestrian was killed early Friday morning in Madera County when he was hit by the driver of an SUV on a darkened roadway.

The California Highway Patrol reported the collision took place on Highway 145 just west of Road 38.

A CHP spokesman said the driver was westbound on 145 about 3:30 a.m. in a Saturn when he suddenly saw the pedestrian in the roadway, but he did not have time to stop or take evasive action. After he struck the man, estimated to be in his 20s, the driver stopped and called the CHP.

The pedestrian was rushed to Valley Children’s Hospital, where he died of his injuries. He was not immediately identified.
