Francisco Cabrera, 24, was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter following a deadly crash in downtown Fresno on Aug. 31, 2019.

A 24-year-old Fresno man pleaded no contest Wednesday to driving drunk and killing his passenger after he crashed into several park cars in downtown Fresno last summer.

Francisco Cabrera pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and will be sentenced on March 16 in Judge James Kelley’s courtroom.

The crash happened around 12 a.m. at Fulton and Divisadero streets on Aug. 31.

When officers arrived they found the injured driver, Cabrera, walking around the vehicle, holding his head. A male passenger, 23-year-old Luis Palma, was located on the floorboard of the car. He was unresponsive with no pulse, police said.

Officers performed CPR on Palma, a Fresno State student, and were able to regain a temporary pulse before it faded.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
