Major injuries reported when car strikes Valley man on a bicycle, the CHP says
A bicyclist suffered major injuries when he was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The bicyclist, described by officers as a Hispanic male, was riding east on Riggins Avenue in Visalia around 5:13 p.m. when he was hit from behind by a 60-year-old man driving a 2007 Toyota, CHP said in a news release. The incident happened just west of Shirk Road.
The bicyclist was thrown onto the south shoulder of the road. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
Alcohol is not believed to be involved in the crash. The incident remains under investigation, CHP said.
