Fresno County adds 259 cases to latest coronavirus count, hospitalizations fall

Fresno County’s Department of Public Health reported 259 additional coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing the total number of confirmed positive test results since March to 17,290.

The latest figures were pulled from the California Department of Public Health, representing cases through Friday night.

There were no additional fatalities reported, leaving the death toll in the county at 171. The number of patients currently hospitalized fell by 13 to 279 total, according to the numbers posted by the county, while 6,505 people overall are considered to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus.

County and state health officials continue to warn recent cases are likely underreported because of issues with California’s electronic tracking system.
