Fresno County’s COVID-19 cases nearing 10,000 while positivity rate slightly rises
Fresno County is nearing 10,000 cases of the coronavirus after 389 more positive tests were reported Saturday, according to the county’s Department of Public Health.
Fresno County is now at 9,954 total cases of for COVID-19 since the first case was reported on March. 7. And as of Friday, there were 7,133 cases that remained active (no new figure was reported Saturday).
There were no deaths reported Saturday, keeping Fresno County at 100 coronavirus-related fatalities.
That translates to a 1 % fatality rate among those who’ve received a positive confirmation of having the coronavirus.
The Department of Public Health also reported a total of 2,332 recoveries for a 23.4 recovery rate among those who’ve tested positive. The overall recovery rate is likely bigger when considering those who contracted the coronavirus but never were tested.
The remaining 75.6 % of those who’ve tested positive are still fighting the virus.
The city of Fresno has accounted for a little more than half of the county’s infected cases with about 5,300 positive tests — approximately 4,300 cases from Fresno remain active.
Selma is the county’s second most infected area with 589 cases (378 still under investigation).
Sanger is third with a total of 528 cases (351 active).
Clovis is fourth at 483 confirmed cases (373 active).
And Reedley ranks fifth with 426 cases (296 active).
Fresno County reported that it has received and processed 93,404 tests. That gives the county a positivity rate of 10.7 %.
That’s up slightly from a week ago when the positivity rate was 10.1% among 81,855 tests administered.
Three weeks ago, the positive rate was 8.5% (4,474 cases among 52,735 tests processed as of Saturday).
And eight weeks ago, Fresno County’s positivity rate was at 8 % (among 18,164 tests results received).
During that time eight weeks ago, Fresno County’s total number of confirmed cases was 1,448.
Since then, 8,506 positive tests have been reported.
Kings County update
Kings County reported 34 new cases Saturday, bringing its total to 1,919 since the pandemic began in mid March.
Of those, 965 remain active cases.
No new deaths were reported, keeping Kings County at 23 coronavirus-related fatalities.
