Fresno County reports triple-digit spike in new coronavirus cases plus four deaths

Fresno County reported 112 new cases of COVID-19 and four new deaths on Wednesday.

The number of new cases reported on Wednesday was the second-highest daily total since Fresno County saw its first case in early March. On Monday, Fresno County reported 116 new cases, although that number accounted for new cases over the weekend.

In total, Fresno has seen 2,900 positive cases and 61 deaths. The positive cases amount to 8.4% of more than 34,500 tests. Since March, 279 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19. Five new hospitalizations were reported Wednesday.

Tulare County health officials reported an additional eight deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 106. The county has 2,881 total cases and leads the six-county central San Joaquin Valley region in deaths, accounting for roughly half the deaths in the region.

Kings County on Wednesday evening confirmed its 10th death, a person over age 65 who was exposed by close contact with another person stricken by COVID-19. The county announced 70 new cases, 35 associated with the prisons in Avenal and Corcoran. Kings County has had 1,940 total cases — 1,055 in the prisons. A total of 1,009 cases hve recovered.

Madera County reported 25 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total up to 275. Four people have died there, and 165 have recovered.

Merced County reported one new death on Wednesday and 25 new cases.
