Kings County adds 46 more coronavirus cases, prison total closes in on 1,000
Kings County added 46 more coronavirus cases to its total in a Sunday night update, including 10 from state prisons in the county.
Cases in the general community rose from by 36 to a total of 806 since the pandemic began.
Another 10 cases in the state-run prisons increased the total in those correctional facilities to 999. Kings County is home to Avenal and Corcoran state prisons, plus the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Corcoran.
Out of the new total of 1,805 reported cases, there was no change in the number of patients who have recovered (649) or deaths (six).
The health department determined that 23 of the new infections were the result of close contact, including all of those in the prisons; the remaining 23 cases remain under investigation.
Around the Valley
No other county in the central San Joaquin Valley had posted an update as of 8 p.m. Sunday.
Fresno County on Saturday added 69 cases, raising its total to 2,547, with 764 patients recovered. Deaths remained at 52.
Tulare County, which does not update its totals on weekends or holidays, had 2,564 cases with 1,780 recoveries and 98 deaths as of Friday.
Madera County had 198 cases with 134 recoveries and three deaths, also as of Friday.
Mariposa County was at 16 total cases, with 15 of those already recovered, and one death as of its last update Friday morning.
Merced County was at 409 cases, 286 recoveries and seven deaths as of Friday afternoon.
