Fresno and surrounding five counties hit 3,000 coronavirus cases

Fresno County added 60 new coronavirus cases and Kings County reported 10 new cases in updates late Thursday, bringing the central San Joaquin Valley to a milestone:

3,000 cases of COVID-19 total in the six-county region.

Total, the region had 106 new cases Thursday – but no new deaths. There have been 74 deaths in the Valley and 992 people have recovered.

Fresno County’s case total was 1,074 with 13 deaths. County officials say 696 cases were being monitored as of late Thursday, while 365 had recovered, and 148 patients were hospitalized.

A total of 12,494 people have been tested in Fresno County. Of the current cases, 454 of the infections were acquired through close contact, while another 414 were acquired through spread in the community, or the origin of infection remained unknown.

Nearly half (487) of the county’s cases are in the city of Fresno. Selma had 112, Sanger 86, Reedley 68 and Clovis 56 with the county’s other communities totaling 265.

Around the region

Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency said in its regular midday update Thursday that an additional 27 people have tested positive for the virus. The county has 1,295 total positive cases. Fifty-four people have died and 342 have recovered.

Mariposa County reported 15 cases total. All but one person has recovered.

Merced County reported nine new cases, bringing the total to 189. Of that number, 120 have recovered and four have died.

Madera County had no new cases, staying at 69. Two people have died. There have been a total of 45 recoveries.

Kings County announced 10 new cases in a Thursday evening update, bringing the county’s total to 358. One person has died and 106 have recovered.

Statewide, the California Department of Public Health said Thursday afternoon that total cases stood at 73,164 with 3,032 deaths.
