10 new coronavirus cases reported in Fresno County, where infection rate is around 5%

Fresno County health officials reported 10 new confirmed cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the county’s total up to 156.

Dr. Rais Vohra, Fresno County’s interim health officer, said the county has confirmed more than 2,640 negative test results, although the county is unable to track all the negative results processed through commercial labs. Those numbers, while not exact, put Fresno County’s positive case rate at around 5% or 6%.

The third death reported earlier this week was an elderly woman, Vohra said.

As the state considers releasing race and other demographic data for coronavirus patients, Vohra said Fresno’s sample size still is too small to draw any rational conclusions.

Vohra said anyone who leaves their home is recommended to wear at least a cloth mask.

He also urged people to avoid social gatherings for Easter.
