Five new coronavirus cases reported in Fresno County

Coronavirus cases in Fresno County rose by five more people on Sunday, county health officials reported.

The total number of confirmed and presumptive positive results for COVID-19 in the county stands at 108.

Travel-related exposures remain the most common at 28, followed by community spread (24) and person-to-person contact (18). Another 38 cases remain under investigation.

The only death in Fresno County was reported Friday.

Merced County Department of Health confirmed its first coronvirus-related death Sunday. The patient was a man under the age of 65 with underlying health conditions.

“The age of this individual highlights the fact that everyone is vulnerable to this disease,” Public Health Director Dr. Rebecca Nanyonjo-Kemp said.

There was no announced change in the total number of Merced County cases of 27.

Tulare County reported nine additional cases Sunday, increasing the total there to 116. Five people have died in the county after two were announced Saturday.

There was good news elsewhere in the central San Joaquin Valley.

Madera County reported Sunday that no new cases had been confirmed. Kings County remained at five.

Mariposa County has yet to report a confirmed case. Fifty tests have returned negative results, with another 11 tests pending, according to Mariposa County Public Health.
