2 more deaths, 26 new cases in Tulare County as coronavirus continues spread in Valley

Two more people have died in Tulare County from the coronavirus, health officials announced Saturday afternoon.

Both of those who died were older than 65 and both died Friday.

The county said one person was a person-to-person contact and the other was a travel case.

The county also reported 26 new COVID-19 cases. The total in the central San Joaquin Valley is 272 among Tulare, Fresno, Madera, Merced and Kings counties.

“We offer our sincere condolences to the friends and family who lost their loved one due to COVID-19,” said Dr. Karen Haught, Tulare County public health officer. “Social distancing is the most important tool community members can use to avoid getting or giving COVID-19.”

Eight people have now died of coronavirus across the region. The new deaths follow three others announced Friday – one each in Fresno, Tulare and Madera counties.

Of Tulare County’s coronavirus cases, 17 contracted the virus through travel, 64 from person-to-person contact, and 26 remain under investigation.

The majority of those who have fallen ill are older than 65 (34 cases), followed by those between the ages of 26 and 40 (29 cases), then those between 41 and 64 (26 cases), along with 18 cases involving young people – two of which are between ages 0 and 17.
