Dolan Fire growth significantly stunted; firefighters work to contain remaining hot spots
The Dolan Fire burning south of Big Sur in Monterey County grew just 211 acres since Saturday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire is now 128,261 acres and 46% contained, the Forest Service said. On Sunday, firefighters will work to monitor remaining hot spots and the containment lines.
Temperatures are supposed to be in the low 90s on the island side of the fire for the next several days, according to the Forest Service’s incident meteorologist.
There are 568 personnel working on the fire as of Sunday, the Forest Service said.
The Dolan Fire encompasses about 200 square miles, or about the same size as the island territory Guam. There has been little growth on the fire in the past few days aside from carefully planned burnout operations to contain the uncontrolled sections of the fire perimeter.
Highway 1 is still closed from Gorda to half a mile south of Lucia because of hazardous conditions from falling rocks and other fire debris rolling off the hills, according to the Forest Service.
Evacuation orders and warnings are in place for those living in areas surrounding the Dolan Fire. The Monterey County Office of Emergency Services has more information on evacuations and closures on its website.
If you would like to help victims of the Dolan Fire, you can donate cash, food, supplies and gift cards. More information can be found on the county’s website: co.Monterey.ca.us.
