Powerball jackpot soars to $681 million as Northern California player wins big
A Powerball ticket sold in Northern California fell just one number short of winning the $655 million jackpot, lottery officials said.
Instead, the lucky ticket won $44,902.
The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing on Monday, Nov. 24, the California State Lottery said.
California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
Where was winning Powerball ticket sold in California?
The lucky ticket was sold at a Shell gas station at 708 Admiral Callaghan Lane in Vallejo, lottery officials told The Sacramento Bee in an email.
That’s about a 60-mile drive southwest from Sacramento.
What were winning numbers in Monday’s drawing?
The winning numbers were 28, 32, 36, 51 and 69 with a Powerball of 2.
The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
A Powerball ticket sold in Illinois won $1 million, the national Powerball site said.
Nearly 620,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States won other prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.
There were 81,741 winners in California.
What is the Powerball jackpot up to now?
Nobody won the Powerball jackpot, which rises to an estimated $681 million, with a cash value of about $315.7 million, for the next drawing, the national Powerball site said.
The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.

To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are one in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.
The next drawing will be Wednesday, Nov. 26.
