A restaurant in California serves the best pasta in the state and it comes with a twist, new rankings show.

PASTA e PASTA by Allegro in Los Angeles was recognized as the No. 1 spot for the comforting and carb-loaded dish, according to a Yelp report published Oct. 1.

To create the list, the review website said it studied pasta restaurants in each state. It “ranked those spots based on the volume and ratings of reviews” left over time from Elite users, those who are active on the platform.

Why fans love it

The uni pasta was highlighted by Yelp as the most popular pasta dish in the state.

Uni means sea urchin in Japanese. The plate comes with a rich and creamy uni sauce with spaghetti and sea urchins.

One Yelp reviewer said the menu item is a “unique pasta that you can’t find in other places.”

“The Uni pasta is *chefs kiss!! And I JUST came from Japan. Haven’t tried anything like it. It’s not fishy but you can tell they really got uni where its creaminess complemented the pasta,” another reviewer wrote.

PASTA e PASTA by Allegro is in downtown Los Angeles within Little Tokyo. The cozy restaurant serves Italian dishes with Japanese-inspired flavors.

Yelp reviewers also rave about the mentai pasta. It has a “japanese-style cream sauce with cod roe and mushrooms.”

“The mentai pasta was our favorite of the night, as it had the most complex flavor and dimensions from the multiple ingredients,” one person wrote on Yelp.
