This Southern California taco joint ranks as No. 1 in the state. Why fans love it
Fans are raving about a restaurant in Southern California that serves “tasty and juicy” birria tacos, a new report says.
And they have a good reason.
Birrieria Little Tijuana in Riverside was ranked the No. 1 spot for tacos in the state, according to Yelp.
“You won’t find carnitas or any other classic street taco fillings here, just their beef birria and its cheesy cousin, the quesabirria,” the restaurant review site said in its Sept. 25 report.
Yelp released the “Best Taco Spot in Every State 2024” ahead of National Taco Day on Oct. 1.
To determine the best places to eat tacos, Yelp said it studied taco restaurants across the country. Within each state, it “ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews” left from Jan. 1, 2019, to July 1, 2024.
Why this spot is a fan favorite
Birrieria Little Tijuana is nestled in a strip mall. But that doesn’t stop people from piling into the small space to order birria tacos.
“The birria was the best I have tasted to date! Crisp delicious tacos, packed with meat and cheese, with the correct amount of condiments (chopped onion, cilantro, jalapenos, and HOT sauce,” one person wrote on Yelp.
“Dont even get me started on the consume. I can drink that straight out of the container,” another person wrote.
Birria is a braised meat dish that originated in Jalisco, Mexico, according to Food Network. The meat, typically beef or goat, is slowly stewed in spices, herbs and chiles.
It is then packed into a tortilla and served with a dipping broth called a consommé.
Birrieria Little Tijuana serves tacos with beef meat, but that’s not the only thing on the menu with birria.
Customers can also order birria ramen, birria fries or birria nachos.
Riverside is about a 60-mile drive east from downtown Los Angeles.
