Three Lake Tahoe area ski resorts opened with perfect timing over the weekend.
Video from Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood ski resorts shows the snow conditions as the 2021-22 winter season opened for skiers and riders on December 11, 2021.
The next day, Sunday, a storm rolled in that marked the first “really significant” snowfall of the season, NWS Meteorologist Craig Shoemaker told The Sacramento Bee.
Mountain passes had accumulated nearly a foot of snow by Monday morning, but reports on snow levels will be updated later this morning.
Elevations above 4,000 feet could see 2 to 3 feet of snow, and areas above 6,000 feet could get up to 6 feet of snow with as much as 2 to 3 inches of snow falling an hour. Elevations as low as 3,000 feet could see snow, too.
