5.8-magnitude quake hits Lone Pine in east-central California, rattling San Joaquin Valley
For the second time this week an earthquake hit the Lone Pine area in east-central California.
A 5.8-magnitude quake happened at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Several smaller quakes followed over the next 20 minutes.
The quakes could be felt across the central San Joaquin Valley and into Visalia, Fresno and Merced and farther north in Turlock and Sacramento.
The USGS sent out an emergency cell phone alert following the quake.
A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the same area on Monday evening. It was followed by 3.8 and 2.9 aftershocks.
