This popular Mexican restaurant known for shrimp tacos opening first Clovis location
Don Pepe Taqueria, the popular locally-owned Mexican restaurant, is gearing up to open its first location in Clovis.
The restaurant has its sign up in the same shopping center as Costco on Clovis Avenue, south of Shaw Avenue. It’s in the same building as Starbucks, in the former MOD Pizza spot.
It will be a fifth location of the taqueria in the Fresno area for the family-owned restaurant.
Four are in Fresno. That includes the usually-busy location on Blackstone Avenue near Gettysburg Avenue, the restaurant on Ingram Avenue up north, the Woodrow Avenue taqueria across from Fresno State, and the Don Pepe on Cesar Chavez Boulevard (formerly Kings Canyon Road) that took over the former Steak ‘n Shake near Walmart when it closed in 2019.
Don Pepe’s management did not return repeated requests for comment.
It’s not clear when the new Clovis location will open. But it appears to be almost ready.
The dining room is fully furnished, with tables and stools. The walls are painted with murals.
A patio is strung with lights.
A liquor license application in the window indicates the restaurant intends to serve beer and wine.
Don Pepe is often praised by reviewers as a “hole in the wall” eatery with “authentic” Mexican food.
Its shrimp tacos and burritos are popular. Its menu also includes other seafood dishes, “super nachos,” breakfast burritos, combo plates with all kinds of meat, and menudo on weekends.
