A locally owned burger spot got so popular it opened its 3rd location in Fresno/Clovis

Less than two years after opening its first restaurant, Hammy’s Smash Burgers has opened its third location.

The locally owned burger spot is up and running at the southwest corner of Shaw Avenue and First Street near Fashion Fair mall.

The restaurant took over the spot previously occupied by Pita Grill, which closed.

Hammy’s was among the first to bring the hamburger patties smashed thin and crispy by a handheld press on the grill to Fresno.

A traditional smash burger at the restaurant is served with grilled onions and a sauce that’s similar to Thousand Island dressing. The limited menu includes burgers served with two or three patties, bacon or jalapenos.

Online ordering is available for delivery or pickup.

Hammy’s opened its first location on West Shaw Avenue near Costco in late 2022. When customers from Clovis demanded a location closer to them, they opened the Clovis Hammy’s. At 393 W. Shaw Ave. near Walmart, it has more seating than the original.

Now the third spot is open and the smash burger train keeps rolling through Fresno. More than just Hammy’s are serving up the trendy burgers though.

They include Smash Bros Bistro, also serving salads, breakfast and more, at Bullard Avenue and Fresno Street. Smash’N Burgers opened at 3085 E. Shields Ave., next to Foods Co., at the northwest corner of Shields and First Street. Locally owned Main Street Burgers took over the former Wayback Burgers spot and switched to the smashburger concept at The Marketplace at El Paseo near Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue.

Owner Hamzah Ahmed could not immediately be reached for comment. But he told The Bee in the past that the new spot near the mall was ideal for a restaurant.

“We love that location. We’ll take it,” he said.

Details: The newest Hammy’s Smash Burgers is at 779 E. Shaw Ave. in front of Fashion Fair. Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
